We look forward to meeting you on your first visit. The following proceedures are what you can expect on your first visit.

Health History Review
It is important for us to be familiar with any medications you are taking and your general health to ensure that your dental treatment does not affect your general health.

Blood Pressure
We will start the exam with checking your blood pressure. We are concerned with more than just the health of your teeth and mouth, and we find blood pressure can be a good indicator of overall health. We will be doing this at each recare visit as a courtesy screening for high blood pressure.

Necessary X-rays
X-rays are vitally important in that they allow Dr. Wezeman to diagnose decay, gum disease, abscesses and cancer.

Oral Cancer Exam
He/she will be looking at the soft tissue in your mouth. He/she will be looking for any lumps, bumps or irregularities. The doctor will let you know immediately if there is a concern.

Periodontal Charting/Screening
We will be making a record of your mouth as it is today by recording your existing condition of your gums. Your gums or periodontia are like a short collar around each tooth. By measuring the depth of the collar (pocket), we can evaluate the health of your gum tissue. We will gently take an instrument and probe the depth of the collar around each tooth. Any measurement less than 2-3 mm is considered healthy; a deeper measurement over 4 mm may be cause for concern.

Charting of Existing Restorations and Missing Teeth
Next, we will be making a record of the existing restorations in your mouth and any missing teeth you may have.

Video Tour
We will use the intra-oral camera and show you your teeth and gums on the TV. It’s so nice for you to be able to see what we see. It really helps you understand any treatment needs.

Photos/Intra-Oral
We will print photos of your teeth and gums for your records.
